Mohsen Gallery in collaboration with Kooshk Residency presented Bandage, the first comprehensive showing in Iran of works by German artist Ursula Neugebauer. This exhibition brought together sculptural installations, drawings and photographic works spanning over a decade of the artists’ oeuvre with three series: Chador, 2006, Bondage, 2011 and en face, 2014. This critical selection introduced to a Tehran audience, Neugebauer’s inquiry into the metamorphosis of everyday life and everyday objects that inform the ways presence and absence, alongside memory operates in forming meanings. The female body, or rather its absence, were evoked strongly in these works, all of which call on the viewer to imagine and reconstruct new meanings through that which has been left out.
The show was held in Mohsen Gallery from 2-14 September.
