Kooshk Residency and Space118 present an exchange program between Iran and India for two Iranian and two Indian artists. This exchange program exists of two parts and will be held during February 2019 in Mumbai and in June 2019 in Tehran. The Residency program is aimed to visual artists, including photography, film and video, performance, painting, sculpture, drawing, etc. Artists are expected to speak and understand English, as the official language in the Residency program.

During the one-month residency, Iranian artists will have the opportunity to work in Mumbai, India within the international residency community. They will be introduced to the Indian art scene, get invited to gallery openings and meet Indian artists. The program will end with an open studio.

Indian artists will have the opportunity to work in Tehran, Iran and collaborate with Iranian artists. During the one month, Kooshk team will accompany the artists to the opening of several galleries and art and cultural events.  Kooshk will also introduce the Indian artists to local students, art critics and artists. The program will start with an artist talk and will end with an open studio.

The application is open to visual artists from Iran, interested in site-specific practices and the sociocultural context of India. Applicants have to be interested in exchanging ideas and consider the participation in both parts of the project. Applications will be evaluated by a committee of the organizers mentioned above and will be informed by e-mail.

For the Iranian artists, the partner residency offers a studio space at Space118 with accommodation in the studio (bed, mattress, pillow, and bed sheets), pantry facility,meals – lunch and dinner (only), bathroom with shower, 24-hour security, administrative assistance, Wi-Fi internet connection, library for reference and research, regular updates on arts and cultural events around Mumbai, cleaning and maintenance service. There will also be an artist talk/presentation amongst peers and Space 118 artists and the chance to present works done during the residency in an open studio/exhibition.

All the expenses for airfare, insurance, medical coverage for the duration of the program, any visa fee and the living expenses will be provided by the artist themselves. Iranian artists are responsible for all required travel documents including visa and insurance.

Program for Indian artists in Iran includes: accommodation (a shared room) and shared studio space for the period of their stay in Tehran that will be provided by Kooshk Residency. Kooshk arranges an artist talk in the beginning and an open studio at the end of the residency for the Indian artists.
