AIR Antwerpen and Kooshk Residency present a new exchange program between Tehran and Antwerp for a Belgian and Iranian visual artist. This exchange program exists out of two parts. The first part is held from 1 -29 February, 2016 in Tehran, Iran.


During a residency of one month, the Belgian artist have the opportunity to work in Tehran, Iran and collaborate with the Iranian artist. During these four weeks, the space will be open to a local public of artists, students, and art critics. The program will end with a presentation and a panel discussion.

The second part will be held from 1-31 August, 2016 in Antwerp, Belgium. The same Belgian and Iranian artists will participate in the second part. There will be a presentation and a panel discussion at the end as well. The application is open for visual artists from Belgian and Iran, interested in site-specific practices and the socio-cultural context of Belgium and Iran. Applicants have to be interested in exchanging ideas and consider the participation in both parts of the projects. Applicants will be evaluated by a committee of the organizers mentioned above and will be informed by e-mail.

For the Iranian artist accommodation and studio space for one month in Antwerpen will be provided by AIR Antwerpen. Iranian artist is responsible for all required travel documents including visa, insurance, airfare.

Program for the Belgian artist includes: accommodation (a room to share for two people) and studio space for one month in Tehran that will be provided by Kooshk Residency, reimbursement of travel costs from Belgium to the residency and back, and per diem for one month of 850 euro that will be provided by AIR Antwerpen.

AIR Antwerpen is an international residence project for artists. In the former lockman’s residence the project has obtained a fabulous post industrial location. It is located on the border between the old and the new harbour, close to the city centre. AIR Antwerpen is more than a receptive workplace for artists from abroad. The organisation wishes to profile itself as a breeding ground for contemporary art, a place where art is developed and where artistic research is pursued.
